I have been studying the Major Arcana in a very serious way over the last few months and by developing a deeper understanding of them, I better understand myself. Every card from the Fool through the World depicts a path in life, whether that path is adventure, wisdom, fear, destruction, sacrifice, choices or love, all paths are painful and joyful, and lead to a deeper understand of self.
Lighting the Lantern
I tend to use the same spreads most of the time. If I have enough time with someone, at least a half hour or more, I will almost always use the Celtic Cross spread because it gives me the opportunity to tell a wonderful story about the persons life; there is a bit about the past, the present and the future. When there isn't very much time I use a shorter 4 card spread of my own creation called The Crisp Cross that more tightly focuses on the past, present, future and advice. Recently I found a new spread that I think is going to use quite a bit. See a sample reading that I did on myself.
Difficult Tarot Cards to See - Or So You Think
There are some cards in a Tarot deck that some people find hard to see, at least they were for me when I first got interested in Tarot. Cards like "Death" and "The Devil" and the "10 of Swords" all depict in their imagery and meanings emotions and events that can seem negative. Who wants to think that Death or the Devil has anything to do with their life? But the cards aren't simplistic like that, they have a core meaning, but that's just the beginning of what they can tell you.
The Two of Swords - A Really Important Moment in Time
The Two of Swords, one of my favorite cards. Isn't she beautiful. What do you think of her? Does she appear to be afraid or in distress, considering she has her swords crossed in front of her and is wearing a blindfold? Even though that's what this imagery could say, it's not the case at all. Look closer.
So They Told You Tarot Was Rooted in Evil
So you've heard that Tarot Reading is evil and will bring the devil into your life. You've also heard this about the Ouija board, palm reading and pretty much anything outside the norm of this societies version of organized religion. The scary and untrue things you've been taught go on and on. If you haven't heard these things, I'm glad you haven't been tainted, but very surprised. I was taught from a very young age that things such as Tarot, Ouija and healing modalities such as Healing Touch were destructive and evil.
